Trust The Science
For almost two years it was drilled into our heads, “Trust the science.” But it wasn’t always authentically scientific. That is, unless you look at it as the science of perseveration. To perseverate is to repeat something so often that it becomes a fixation. Lies repeated so often they become our source of truth. Or the science of dissembling, which is the art of covering something up as to not reveal true intentions. Or the science of obfuscation, which is to intentionally make something so obscure the source of it is concealed. I have one scientific result that can always...
Brotherhood Makes It Happen
It’s always about relationship. The day after the July 4 killer floods hit Texas, Walt Landers and his team at The Life Church in hard-hit San Angelo moved into action working on relief and rebuilding their area up the Guadalupe River. Downriver, the 24-hour news showed the tragedies that unfolded in Kerr County and other places along the river. At the same time, Paul Vargas at the Dream Center in Phoenix saw on the news the tragedy unfolding in Texas. He started making calls. We connected Walt and Paul, and within 72 hours, Paul had 12 men driving from Phoenix...
Get Your Stuff Back
Everyone arrives in Ziklag at some point in their life. You’ve been there – you might be there now. It’s the place you arrive when you make a bad decision. Bad choices lead to the wrong destination. King David was anointed by God, had defeated Goliath, but walked straight into a season of fear and doubt. In 1 Samuel 17, we read that he began to “think to himself," or "take his own counsel." He didn’t have someone to talk to – he acted out of fear and didn’t listen to anyone. In the shallow region of his own wisdom,...
In His Presence
For the New Testament believers, the presence of God was no longer external, but internal. When Jesus broke the curse of death, he opened our hearts to life in God’s presence and the life of Christ in us. That’s where you live today. In his presence and filled with his presence. Here’s the promise that goes with that: “Whenever they were in trouble and turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him out, they found him.” (2 Chron 15:4) He is the God who will be found. He’s here now, with you, in you. The same Spirit...
Stalwart Men Step Up In Disasters
As our hearts are breaking over another flood disaster, bringing back memories of Hurricane Helene’s devastation last year, I happened on a post by one of the campers who escaped alive. She said, “One of the counselors at Mystic [Camp in Texas] taught us this poem, “A bell's not a bell 'til you ring it, A song's not a song 'til you sing it, Love in your heart wasn't put there to stay Love isn't love 'til you give it away!” (Oscar Hammerstein II) When Jesus rode into Jerusalem just prior to his death and resurrection, Matthew records this scene,...
