Would You Save A City?

Would you save a city if nobody knew it was you?

The resonating theme of Lions Roar was Born to Serve. CMN Board member Dr. Robert Barriger shared a strong word that gave power to that theme.

Robert led into it with this scripture, the context of which a city was besieged by a warring king, about to be destroyed, then, “A poor, wise man knew how to save the town, and so it was rescued. But afterward no one thought to thank him.” ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭9‬:‭15‬ ‭NLT

Would you save a city if nobody knew it was you? This is the challenge for you and me.

The backstory was this; As a young man Robert met Christ at a small church in Redondo Beach, California. He was part of a gang of surfers that met Jesus and that the church accepted them, even in their surf trunks, sandals, long hair and ruggedness. But, these young men had met Jesus. And they found a community that loved them like Jesus.

An older lady leaned into Robert’s life one day with this challenge … “If you really want to do something difficult, be a missionary for Jesus.” Robert’s pastor Ralph Moore led him into Bible College, then Robert and his wife Karyn and two little children went to Peru. Today, 40 years later, hundreds of thousands of people have met Jesus through that ministry.

And, no one remembers the name of that little older lady. But, her Holy Spirit challenge has changed the lives of millions of people for eternity. Would you save a city if nobody knew it was you?

That is the essence of what we do at CMN.

That’s is the essence of a man who is born to serve.

Willing to serve and give all the glory to God.

Be like that little lady, speak into a young man’s life today.

We don’t know what remarkable results will take place when God’s word is spoken into the heart of a man.

Be that man.
