What is true greatness?

There’s a difference between doing something and just knowing about something. It’s based in maturity. Maturity is doing what’s right despite external issues or momentary distractions.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is awarded for groundbreaking discoveries that significantly benefit humankind. It is one of the most prestigious awards in the world. The discovery benefits humanity, potentially by improving health, preventing disease, or advancing scientific knowledge.

How does someone win a Nobel Prize? They pursue breakthrough.

Proximity is not the same as pursuit. Working in a lab, looking for a way to stop a disease, going after the eradication of a killer – it’s slow, tedious work that must be pursued with unfailing intensity.

Just being in the lab. Cleaning the instruments daily. Being around the work. Reading a book about it. That gets nothing done. Proximity is not the key, pursuing the work is the key.

It’s the same in your life as a man.

We must pursue the things of God. Just knowing about Jesus is nowhere close to knowing him personally. Knowing about Jesus is just a foolish desire for fire prevention.

It’s knowing Jesus. Pursuing him. Pursuit is what will bring breakthrough to you and to those around you. That’s the true prize. It’s the return on investing in mature living.

The joy of winning the Nobel Prize is based on what you’ve done. The joy of following Jesus is based on what you’ve become.

James said don’t just be a talker, poser or hearer – be a doer. To be a ‘doer’ of the word means that you work on yourself for the sake of others.

A man’s greatness is not found in his physical, social or financial attributes. The true greatness of a man’s life is found in his care for others.
