I recently walked the dusty corridors of Athens and trails in Corinth where Paul walked, places where the early Christians were persecuted, derided, and beaten. They didn't stop. It came back to me again and again ... they just didn't quit.
James wrote, “When troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.… When your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” James 1:2-4.
James basically said, “Obstacles make you larger.” He knew the result of facing adversity was increased strength, boldness of heart, and greater capacity in the inner man. The strength to not quit.
What stops us as men?
Each man faces unique trials and different issues, but facing those trials in Christ will strengthen your heart and make you a bolder man. An old prophet named Zechariah said our victories come this way: “It’s not by your strength or your power; it’s by the power of God.” Zechariah 4:16.
Endurance, tenacity, and inner strength begin in the private moments of intimacy with God. It is revealed in the public moments of adversity. It births destiny in those times that we just - don't - quit.
Jesus said, “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.
Take heart. Stay bold.
