The Liberty Bell is one of the most enduring and famous symbols of American freedom. Around its lower frame is a very important scripture.
America is a nation built on biblical foundations. A constitutional republic that is the longest-lasting such nation in the history of the world.
The Fourth of July celebrates the signing of The Declaration of Independence that was signed on July 4, 1776, by 56 men of faith and courage.
It was first publicly read on July 8, 1776, at which time the bells of Philadelphia rang for hours. The Liberty Bell was one of those.
The signers of the Declaration of Independence risked everything for freedom. Five signers were captured by the British as traitors and tortured to death. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Many lost their wives, families and fortune. Nine fought and died in battle.
They were men like you and me. Men with core values. Heroes willing to die for a cause greater than self. Ordinary men with extraordinary purpose.
John Adams said, “The general principles on which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity.” About the Fourth of July and the ratification on the eighth he said, “[This day] ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty”.
There is a scripture on the Liberty Bell for all to see. It is Leviticus 25:10, “Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof”.
We know this liberty is rooted in the principles of Jesus Christ. For he is true freedom. Today for men of every nation we pray they may find the liberty of a relationship with Jesus.
May the Lord bless you this weekend.
And may God continue to bless America.
