The Power of Praying Like Jesus Taught

Many years ago, I began practicing speaking the Lord’s Prayer daily.

Praying it over my family, my friends, my ministry, and my daily walk with Jesus.

This daily ritual centers your heart, builds hope, and gives energy to your day.

It’s called the “Lord's Prayer,” but it was actually what he taught his disciples during his personal ministry manifesto called the “Sermon on the Mount.”

“In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”  Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV

When you pray this short prayer, these are some of the attributes of Christ and your relationship with God that you are praying:

  • God is my Father: This is personal. You are there and will never leave me. You have made me your heir, a son of God.

  • Jesus is my Savior: Thank you for the freedom of the cross and your sacrifice.

  • He is my Lord and King. To Him is due all honor, respect, and obedience.

  • He is my Righteousness. I am in right standing with God because of the finished work of the cross.

  • His Kingdom is eternal. This is where my hope is. I am never alone because wherever I am, He is there.

  • He is my Provider. From him flow all the blessings of God. From Jesu,s I have what I need to live a life that is victorious.

  • He is my Identity. He is my story. And my story is in Him. I find myself when I give my heart, life, and emotions to Christ.

  • He is my Healer. The healer of my heart, my body, my soul. He is the God who listens and acts for us.

  • He is my Peace. He is the good Shepherd. In the middle of all life’s storms, I find my peace in Him.

This daily practice is a ritual of hope, healing, and faith.

If Jesus taught us a prayer. Don’t you agree it might be smart to say it often?

Walk strong today. Help someone along their way.

Grace / peace,
