As our hearts are breaking over another flood disaster, bringing back memories of Hurricane Helene’s devastation last year, I happened on a post by one of the campers who escaped alive.
She said, “One of the counselors at Mystic [Camp in Texas] taught us this poem,
“A bell's not a bell 'til you ring it,
A song's not a song 'til you sing it,
Love in your heart wasn't put there to stay
Love isn't love 'til you give it away!” (Oscar Hammerstein II)
When Jesus rode into Jerusalem just prior to his death and resurrection, Matthew records this scene, "When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." Matthew 9:36
Compassion is one of the visible traits of a stalwart man. It’s more than just a feeling; it is love moved to action.
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus is described as moved with compassion. He didn’t just notice pain — He felt it. When He saw the hungry, He fed them. When He saw the sick, He healed them. When He saw the lost, He taught them the Kingdom.
We have many friends who are working hard on helping families across Texas in their recovery. There are also many people affected who were there from across the U.S. or have relatives in other states.
I know your heart is moved with compassion like mine.
We have two close friends, men who serve on teams at CMN, who are working at a high level of effectiveness. You can give directly to them with great confidence that what you give will have direct impact.

As David positioned his son Solomon to build the temple in Jerusalem, gave him finances and gathered the leaders to give generously, David prayed a remarkable prayer of generosity and compassion. In part he said.
“Now therefore, our God,
We thank You
And praise Your glorious name.
But who am I, and who are my people,
That we should be able to offer so willingly as this?
For all things come from You,
And of Your own we have given You. (1 Chron 29:13-14)
It is the mark of a man of God that he is generous.
I know that’s you. Because that is who we are.
