David was at Ziklag and all hell broke loose. He'd been anointed king but Saul was trying to kill him. He had a great idea ... get away - head to another country and make some money.
Ever reach the end of yourself and feel there's nothing left? Ever feel like you just don't want to face what's going on in your life? Ever had a 'great idea' only to discover it wasn't a 'God idea'?
God didn't send David to Ziklag but David ended up there because he was discouraged and tired of the pressure of facing Saul. He was stressed.
So in 1 Samuel 30 we find David in a foreign country with a band of men - and they're raiding, pillaging and wiping out the enemy. Seemed like a good plan. Then, the enemy wiped out his encampment, took his wife and family and the families of all his men.
David was unfaithful. But, then ... David repented. And, God was faithful.
God is faithful to you even when you're depleted of faith, filled with disappointment and discouragement. Even when your prayers ring hollow and seem to bounce off the ceiling, you can be certain -- God is faithful.
Deuteronomy 7:9 says "Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands."
David repented and followed the command of the Lord. "Go and recover all." David recovered his family, recovered his faith and went on to become a great king and servant of the Lord.
David failed. God never fails.
God never quits on you, don't you quit on God.
