A man in front of me had a T-shirt on, “Jesus is King.” Gave him a fist bump. We moved on, and I wondered how many others knew what that really meant.
For you and me, it’s central to our faith - and the strength, courage, and hope we carry as men. The bible is replete from Genesis to the maps regarding the Lordship and Kingship of Jesus … but here’s one of my favorite passages, Colossians 1:15-17,
“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together."
This speaks of three important elements of Jesus as our Lord, King, and Savior.
First, his Kingship is eternal. He did not just suddenly appear 2,000 years ago. He is the creator of all that exists. We did not declare him king - creation speaks of his kingship. His eternal agency is what brings us life. He is Lord!
Second, Jesus holds everything together. He came as the Word and the light. The Word of God who gives us hope. When we see the majesty of creation, we see the love and hands of God Almighty. When it seems that chaos reigns, I am reminded that it is all held together in Jesus.
Third, his lordship takes away my anxiety and restlessness. His presence heals my heart and brings direction and peace to my path. When I think of how God has set in place the realms of this earth, I see that the only place I can put my trust is in Him.
He is the eternal Father.
Over 2 billion people have never heard the life-giving message of Jesus. Millions of men do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior - across every nation.
This is why we tirelessly work. That every man may know Him.
My prayer for you today is that Jesus is King and Lord - in your life, the lives of those you love, and for those in your world.
And let’s not grow weary or back off carrying hope to this world … even if it’s just wearing a T-shirt in a grocery store.
Let’s stay bold.
Your friend, brother, and ally.
Grace and Peace,
Paul Louis Cole
