Today as men, we must have the spirit of a David—ready to shout and to recognize, “The battle is the Lord’s!” When the giant, Goliath, was hurling insults at the intimidated army of ancient Israel, David RAN into the battle.
Today also, we must move with strength, with speed, and with power, and go into the battle—NOW.
What are the giants that come against your life? Financial pressure? Temptations that too easily take you down? Despair that hits you in the heart? Relationship hurts that never heal? IT’S TIME TO KILL THE GIANTS.
Back when Goliath was having his way with the armies of Israel, King Saul and David’s brothers were intimidated by the screaming giant. It was a teen, David, who knew that God was larger. David knew that God would enable him to kill the giant. He just needed to stand up in faith!
King Saul tried to give David his armor. That’s the way human wisdom reacts, to try to solve it on our own. But David said, “NO!” And then in 1 Samuel 17, David said:
“You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down…and all those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
How do we end up with such confidence? By meditating on God’s Word. How do you do that? By hearing the word, and hearing it again, and again. The influence of David’s life changed the world around him. Years later, his brothers became his trusted warriors. His nation became a nation that took land away from enemies, and defeated those who opposed their God.
Is there a man who will fight? YES, WE ARE THOSE MEN!
The promise of God to Israel in Deuteronomy 20 is so very strong…
"When you go out to fight your enemies and you face horses and chariots and an army greater than your own, do not be afraid. The LORD your God, who brought you safely out of Egypt, is with you! Before you go into battle, the priest will come forward to speak with the troops. He will say, 'Listen to me, all you men of Israel! Do not be afraid as you go out to fight today! Do not lose heart or panic. For the LORD your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!' THE BATTLE IS THE LORD’S!"
