We know the Bible teaches us about thankfulness and being a man who is grateful. Now, medical science is again proving the Bible correct.
Read this quote from a recent article by the American Heart Association:
"Some neuroscience experts think our brains focus on negative information to remember pain so we can avoid it in the future. They call this “negativity bias.” To balance out this natural tendency, we can practice gratitude — a good medicine.
“Research has shown that the practice of gratitude is associated with many positive effects in a person’s physical and mental health. Expressing gratitude can improve sleep, mood, and immunity, and can decrease depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and disease.
“So being grateful is the gift that keeps on giving."
Three key indicators will bring a man's spirit, heart, and mind into a healthy harmony with the Spirit of Christ, deeply connected to the heart of God.
1. Gratefulness is the mark of a mature man.
Immaturity complains; maturity gives thanks.
A grateful man refuses to let circumstances dictate his attitude. Gratitude is a decision of the will, not an emotion of the moment. When a man chooses gratitude, he rises above what he feels and stands firm on what he knows— that God is faithful.
2. Gratefulness keeps your heart clean and your spirit strong.
Bitterness cannot survive where gratitude lives.
A grateful man guards his attitude like a soldier guards a gate. He refuses entry to self-pity, offense, or entitlement. Gratefulness strengthens a man’s spirit, clarifies his vision, and keeps him walking in integrity.
3. Gratefulness positions you for increase.
What you appreciate… appreciates.
Compassion, friendship, and love always multiply in the hands of a thankful man.
Gratitude releases faith, and faith releases God’s power. When a man thanks God for what he has, he becomes positioned for increase. Increase follows honor—and thanksgiving is honor expressed.
Paul the Apostle wrote, "...in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Let's be healthy men of strength, action, courage, and faith. Men who are thankful for the man next to them. Thankful for the blessings of God. Thankful for the friends and family in our lives.
Be thankful. Live with a strong heart.
