Men who prepare for disaster are told to keep a BOB—a bug-out bag—ready at all times. Water. Fire. Food. Tools. First aid. The essentials for survival. That's wisdom. But life’s greatest disasters are not always hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, or war.
Sometimes the disaster is a marriage under pressure, a son drifting away, a private temptation, a business failure, a diagnosis, a grief you cannot outrun. In those moments, a man needs more than supplies on his back. He needs brothers at his side.
The most important BOB is not a bug-out bag. It is a Band of Brothers. You may survive alone for a season, but you cannot rebuild alone. Isolation is not healthy. God never designed men to fight isolated, bleed silently, or carry the weight of life without covenant relationships. “Two are better than one,” the Bible says, because when one falls, the other lifts him up (Ecclesiastes 4:9).
Brotherhood is God’s survival system for the soul.
"A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity." (Proverbs 17:17).
The opinion section of the NY Times spurred my thoughts on this today. And even that general market writer had this summation, "True preparation isn't something you can buy off Amazon or stuff into a bag, and it certainly won't be found on YouTube. It's built by people and our commitments to one another.
So yes—keep a bag ready if you need one. Maybe even keep a BOB - a bag full of Bibles. But above all, build your band. Find men who pray with you, fight for you, tell you the truth, strengthen your hands, and call you higher. Be that man for someone else.
The world does not need more lonely men with cool gear. It needs Godly men with a Christlike passion for brotherhood—men who rescue, rebuild, restore, and refuse to leave another man behind.
That is brotherhood. That is strength. That is how men survive the storm and rebuild the world.
And this is who we are. We are CMN, we rescue men.
