Ever wonder what to do? What is the right thing given the situation? How to move forward?
David faced those questions. He was under pressure—soul-crushing pressure, the kind that bends a man low enough to make him wonder if he still has enough strength to stand back up.
And in that moment, David did something every man of God must learn to do. He grabbed his own heart and told it the truth. He spoke life over himself.
There are moments when you cannot wait for others to encourage you, cannot wait for circumstances to change, cannot wait for every feeling to line up and salute your faith.
In those moments, you speak.
You take the Word of God and preach it to your own soul. “Why are you cast down, O my soul? Hope in God” (Psalm 43:5).
When the noise gets loud, read the Word louder. When fear stalks you, turn and answer it with faith. When your mind starts lying, tell it what God says.
God never treats you as your sins deserve. He removes them as far as east is from west. He loves you like a Father who will never walk away.
God told Ezekiel to speak over the dead bones ... he said: "Speak Life!" (Ezekiel 37:4,9).
That's what David did. David learned to speak life over his own heart.
A friend put his phone on speaker and said, "Paul, listen to this." It was a voicemail saying, "You're a champion. You'll stand strong when others bow. You have the same spirit in you that raised Jesus from the dead!" After about 90 seconds, I said, "That's a great message!" He said, "Yeah, I sent it to myself." I never forgot that. And I hope neither will you.
Stay in the Word. Read David's Psalms at night for courage. Proverbs in the morning for wisdom. The chapter in Proverbs that matches the day of the month.
Speak what you read out loud. Speak life over yourself and let the Lord build your spirit up.
Grace does not ignore your weakness. God's grace enters your weakness with mercy, truth, and power.
You are not finished. You're a champion.
You are not forgotten. You're an overcomer.
You are not done. God is sovereign!
