Goliath walked to the center of the battle zone every morning and every evening and cursed the armies of Israel. Saul didn’t trust God so he hid in fear - fear always quarantines. He kept his army in their tents!
This was the army of God. This was the army of covenant and anointing and God’s power. And they stayed in their tents. Insane.
Fear always diminishes your strength.
What did Goliath say that was so very powerful? The Bible says in 1 Samuel 17 that he cursed Israel. He swore at them? He came up with curse words so powerful that Saul ran and hid?
When the Philistines hired Goliath as a mercenary, they weren’t looking for a warrior that knew how to swear and curse. They were looking for a man that could fight.
So what did Goliath say?
The curses of Goliath were the same stuff that comes at you and me every day. “You’re not good enough. You don’t measure up. God doesn’t have your back. This will never work. You’ve blown it and there’s no way back.” There’s a hundred negative thoughts the enemy throws at us every day. Counselors tell us that negative thinking happens easily … it’s part of human framing.
How to we defeat the negative stuff that seems to come up so easily?
We do what David did. He was in prayer daily. He was a man of worship. He memorized the Word of God and recited it daily. He armed his spirit and mind in the presence of the Lord.
And then what did David say? He said what you and I need to repeat often. It’s one of the most powerful war-cries in human history.
Here it is, read it out loud:
“David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel!” 1 Samuel 17:45,46
In the name of the Lord! Crush the curses of Goliath!
“And they overcame and conquered the enemy because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony” Rev 12:11 (Paraphrase)
